i have a 427 bbc talldeck, and i was going to keep the crank since its forged, but i decided to stroke it out since it is a talldeck. but ive never worked with tall decks before and im having problems with choosing the right stroked crankshaft.
which one is better for a 427 talldeck chevy big block

im not familiar with what size stroke is applicable in a 427 td, and if i did buy one of these cranks, what would make my 427 turn into? and is it safe? someone told me if a put a 454 stroker crank in a 427 td, it would make the cubic-in's really high, and is not recommended unless you get a aftermarket block like dart or merlin just because its more durable.

also depended on the stroker crank, what size rods should i get ? standard or smaller or bigger?
thanks for anyhelp.

-also is there anyway of proving the crank are forged>? i dont wanna get jipt off by someone off ebay. thanks.

if u can get me some block numbers and crank numbers i have the chevy book and ill look it up an can tell you what it can take. im going to do the same thing myself but im using a tall 454 and going 532 ci. i still have my crank and rods if its usable in your combo.

It's easy to figure displacement... bore x stroke.
You want to run the longest rod you can for max torque and durability.

i think id have to pass on those cranks it would suck to have a pos crank waist a good eng. if it were a stock eng. id say go for it but in your case id use a cast scat if your wanting to be cheap and their less $. or 4340 scat for $650. u can bore your block .060 and use a 4.250 crank and it will give u a 496. you can go bigger but i dont know what its intended use is . pm me what u want to do with it and i can tell u all the cranks that u can use ranging in price from $215-$1160 ea.
