42re question

I have a 98zj with a 42re transmission that has +260,000 miles on it. I am looking to buy a used 42re with a lot less miles in much better condition. I found one locally for $200 with less then 150,000 but it is for a 2001 grand cherokee.

I dont see why there would be any difference or issues but I am pretty sure the the inline 6 motor changed a bit from 98 to 01 so I wanted to know if they would be interchangeable.

I can't answer the question as to why they are different. But I do remember when I have read about this in the past, it was 97-98 only. Maybe someone else with more knowledge will chime in about why they won't interchange.
