[edit] I have documented the entire build in a website...lots of pictures there

---

Well, this will be a long term build up, we are going for a body off restoration / so this will be back to stock by the time we are done! This will be a "farm jeep" for the family, we have 30 acres up in Caswell, we want it to be able to drive around the property and back/forth to home in Greensboro.

Picked this up from a fellow NC4x4er Andrew Byrd on Saturday, more pix to follow. So far Dad has just blown it all out, then pressure washed it, removed the seats for better access etc.

He is looking at doing both the frame and body, having them beadblasted (anyone know reasonable $ place in Triad let me know!)

Hoping the engine will not take much work, but if it does it does... From my research, axles are 5.38 factory, Dana 18 is about 2.5ish to 1, and have not found the tranny info yet but should be 35:1 or so crawl ratio I would guess.

I know one of the first items we are looking for is a radiator, prefer "original" or similar...we know 'any' small one will prob fit.

So technically this rig will be built to "wheel" offroad, just not gonna take it to Tellico or anything!

NICE! Where is the rest of the engine? LOL Old stuff is cool, but that thing makes my '69 K5 look like a space ship.

Keep us posted on the progress, very nice to see one saved.

I had a 53 cj3a. It was cool! I got it stock and when i sold it for the money to buy an atlis. It had a 225 Buick from a boat, 1 t18 I built from 3, Dana 20 t-case, d30 d44 out of a cj5, with 35 boggers. Ya it was cool

the dana 18 could also be like a 1.92 i think, dunno about that year.... those things can climb a tree though with teh factory gearing....

also, if the engine gives you more work then you want, I have a complete drivetrain thatll go in that thing with the Ford 2.3L in front of it

thought i'd pass on that we have a customer's 46 CJ2a at the shop right now... it's for sale for $1300 OBO..... it runs, and drives..... and needs a lot of work... but damn it's pimp! if i had the money i'd buy it up and make it my 35mph max speed daily driver, hahahaha

2.46 in the t case. A friend of mine used a combo of ford 20 jeep 20 and jeep 18 parts to make a 2.46:1 jeep Dana 20. He called it the poor man's terra low

It is good to see that this project is moving along. If you get a chance while the body is off could you do some quick frame measurements? I have a body and I need to get some rough dimensions so that I can start a frame.

Ok... finally managed to get all the pictures here onto my work computer and assemble them into a website!!

http://sites.google.com/site/1946willysrebuild/

Dad is getting pretty close though he expected to be done MUCH sooner.

Right now the checklist is to run wiring for the rig / then hook it all up and start the rig!

When that happens / all the little pieces will get painted and put on (dad wants to move the truck to the main house / so he can paint the little stuff without getting stuff over the main body)

Then...tagged / insured and ON the road!!

The website is a work in progress / dad will be filling in the text / maybe breaking down parts or stages into smaller pieces, etc.

If there is something you specifically would like to see or know about let me know / we can incorporate that into the site or answer it here!

looks like a nice project. i have a 62 with the f-head that i am trying to part out if you need anything... email me if you think of something hefnerab@appstate.edu

I also have a 46 that I want to rebuild but for right now it is sitting. Where did you get some of your parts. I am going to the willys overland sight and ordering them.
