4L60E Help

I bought a 99 Chevy s-10, and I'm using the engine and trans as donor and I will be swapping into my 94 4runner.

The m30 4l60e behind the 4.3, has a 6 bolt to 5 bolt extension housing.

6 bolts on the trans, to 5 bolts on the tcase.

I want to find an extension housing for the 4l60 that has 6 bolts on both sides, hopefully allowing me to bolt a 208 or 241 to get the driveshaft on pass side.

Worst case scenario, I use my older 700r4 208, but I know the 4l60e is in good shape and would prefer to use it.

Here is the factor adapter.

I have ran across a 4l60-246 adapter gm # 15724744 , that shows to have 6 bolts on both ends, but I can't find any specs on length or bolt patter to verify this will work.

Also. Not sure, but I may need a clocking ring to get the tcase rotated correctly.

So does anyone know of a 208/241 clocking ring?

Or a 5 bolt to 6 bolt clocking ring for 208/241?

Thanks in advance.

According to one ebay seller the gm #15724744 is 5.5" face to face.

Another ebay seller says 15724744 is 4.5" long face to face.

He also "thinks" the gm# 15005474 is 5" face to face, but wasn't positive, one ebay seller aslo says 15005474 is 5" face to face.

Also "appears" 4l60 adapter #15726252 is also 5" face to face.

Would a 4L80E adapter work? and what's the difference between #15724745 and #15744745?

edit # 15744745 is 2.75" thick. Maybe a 1.25" thick clocking ring would be the solution?

#15724745 is 2.25" thick, 6.125 bolt circle and 6.75 bolt circle. This will not work.

The bolt circle on the 4L60e and the 241 are both 6.875"

Got my 1990 suburban 241C cleaned up today and mocked it up on 4L60e without an adapter to measure spline engagement. The 90 model has the necessary 40 pulse VSS, that I'm told is necessary for newer obd2 EMS to function correctly.

@ 4" thick adapter, full spline engagement.

@ 5.5" thick adapter, 1" of spline engagement and would be the absolute minimum I would trust.

Is this a better tape measure? Haha.

Another question and the reasoning behind the thread title change,

Is there a way to fully manually control the shifting of a 4L60E with using switches, just as can be done with a 4T65 or AW4 for example? I would guess two toggles for shifting and one to lockup the converter?

In theory, in my mind... based on what can be done with 4T65 or AW4

still have shift cable for P-R-N-D

Then with both toggles "up" would be 1st gear,
first toggle "down" second toggle "up" would be second,
first toggle "down" second toggle "down" would be third,
first toggle "up" second toggle "down" would be fourth?

IF that would work, then could be done with a forward and back lever, and microswitches? bump it forward to upshift, and down to downshift?

Any Ideas @transman731 @Lee @stinkbomb @Jody Treadway

This is pretty slick, but not exactly what I'm wanting. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/transmission-drivetrain/1402-junkyard-builder-rossler-transmissions/

Leaning towards the RAD designs all in one winters shifter and micro switch deal.

Pulled the trigger and ordered a #15724744 for $40 off eBay.

Seller says "one small mark less than 4.5 on tape measure".

Hopefully if this is accurate, I will only lose 1/2" of spline engagement putting it @ 1.875" and I hope is enough.

Being that the tail end of the 4L60E is 6 bolt, I'd think a 4L80E adapter would work. If you need a clocking ring, any 6 bolt clocking ring will work. All of the GM 6 bolt, round patterns are the same bolt pattern.

As for the controlling of the transmission, I know you can just put on a manual valvebody, but I'm not sure that there's a way to control it with just switches.

Also, not sure if you've looked in to it or not, but I'd highly suggest a JB Conversions SYE for the 241. You can use a multitude of rear yokes other than what comes with the kit. I'm using a 1410 rear yoke meant for an NP205, I just had to mill it down to make it shorter and re-bevel the end of the yoke where it slides in the seal. I also have the part number for a seal with the proper OD to fit a 2.125" diameter yoke instead of a 2" like the kit supplies you with. Just some food for thought!

Ordered gm# 15724744 from eBay for $40 shipped.

6 bolts on trans side matches 4L60,
6 bolts on tcase side matches 241-c.

Length is 4.437", so only lose 7/16 of max spline engagement, leaving 1.937 overlap.

Perfect factory gm 4L60e extension housing / transfer case adapter to use an older passenger drop np case behind the newer 4L60e.

The clocking of the bolt pattern is identical to angle of older gm adapters with the top bolt on the tcase at the 12:00 position.
