Well, it finally happened, the 4l60e in the Z71, God rest it's soul, has gone bye bye. And of course it decided to do it right when I just spent every last cent I had to get my engine rebuilt and running, well not every last cent but I probably need to keep some $$ to be able to pay my rent and eat until I Graduate in may. And unfortunately I probably won't be making anymore $$, or at least enough to pay for a new tranny, until summer gets here and I graduate and get a job.

So I'm trying to come up with a solution that will last me for a couple months so I'll have something to drive till I can start working and get enough money to put a new tranny in there.

So here's the tech question:

From what I've researched the differences in the trannys were Late 80's-94, 95, 96-late 90's

Mine is a 95, but I got that 4l60e from the 98 1500 I have still. Anyone know what it is that different between the trannys? From what I've heard its electronic. Because I can take them both out/apart and just swap the electrical harness's or parts over or w/e if I need to . . . .

the input shafts are different for the lockup

Not the same transmissions. But they can be converted. Basically you need to tear both totally down. Remove valve body and pump(balls fall out when valve body comes out)

I'd personally be ready to change some clutches when its apart, because the directs are almost always burnt. You need a special seal sizing tool to install the sealing rings on the input drum

Mine has lockup . . . would it work if i used the tc from my current 95 4l60 to not have to swap inputs . . . . idk if I am up to the task of completely tearing down a tranny . . . . I could probably mess with the bottom thing that looks like a brain but not sure about the internals.

Well now I don't know if its going bad or not, I thought it was slipping like crazy but I had a custom chip in because I modded the engine/fuel injection so much it barley can run on the stock chip. Well yesterday I changed the chip back to the stock one and it doesn't have the tranny issues anymore, but it runs really bad, I think I may be having electrical/computer issues.

I am supposedly taking it to the tbichips.com guy Tuesday to get it dyno tuned, hopefully we can get all the bugs worked out then.

But i did replace the lockup solenoid since someone told me the symptoms were similar to it going bad, now the lockup doesn't work at all :shaking:
