So the step rails on my wife’s 2012 ram have always felt spongy to me. Yesterday while at work my wife swung through to pick me up cause we went to dinner and it was on the way from the house to the eatin place. My boss comes running out and jumps on the running board to smooch my wife through the window (it’s that kind of small family place) his fat ass finally did in the running board mount. It wound up pulling the nutserts through the tinfoil inner rocker anyway tonight I fixed it after a little thinking on it. Took a piece of sheet, drilled holes and inserted nutserts. Sliced the inner rocker and peeled just enough to slide the new piece up in there. Tacked it in place then beat the cut part back in place. Primer and a splash of rustoleum and put the side step back on. Was actually pretty simple. Anyone with a 4 th gen may need to see this as it was a pretty piss poor design from the factree. Did the three mount points on the drivers side in about 3.5 hrs with a dinner and some beer breaks in there. Now I know the ins and outs it would probably be about 1.5 hrs

I took the easy way out and bought some premade brackets for the new to me work truck. I didn't think to look under there until I went to install the new steps and quickly found on google that it is a common thing. Still haven't burned them in yet, but I think about doing it every time I have to climb into the truck. https://www.northspecbuilt.com/product-page/weld-on-running-board-repair-plates
