Okay, its a 1990 wranger with the stupid vacuum operated front axle. I went and got a new switch for the tranfercase today and nothing changed. I started messing with the vacuum lines after doing a little research to see what go's where exactly and came up with this..............I unhooked what was left of the red line on the intake manifold(it was going into the cab???) I put a t-connector on one of my yellow lines that goes from the front axle to the t-case and hooked that line to the intake manifold where the red line was....still following me...lol........Okay, when I jumped in the jeep and cranked her up, the 4wd light on the dash was on(which was the first time I've ever seen it). So while I'm still in 2wd(on the t-case shifter), I drive it over to an open spot in the parking lot and put it in 4lo and cut the wheel all the way and go very slowly.....eureka, IT WORKS. Now when I go back to 2wd, the 4wd light in the dash just stays on all the time. Is it coming out of 4wd or not??? That is the question...lol. Sorry for the super long post. And yes, I've searched everywhere on the internet trying to fix this issue, so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

obviously you fixed the vaccuum problem, but if it's stuck in 4wd then it doesn't help. maybe you can put it on a lift and see if all 4 wheels are still spinning when you put the shifter in 2wd? i know with my 94, when shifting from 2wd to 4wd hi the light will come on and off, but sometimes it stays on after i've shifted back to 2wd until i've driven a little bit.

Okay, well maybe I'll just put it in 2wd and take it for a drive and see what happens. I haven't driven it anywhere since I've been messing with it. As soon as I cranked it up, the light was on though??? If it's still in 4wd though, even in 4hi, would the front still jump if I cut the wheel all the way and go in a circle really slow? I tried that after I put the shifter back in 2wd and it seemed like normal like it was in 2wd. I'm too broke to buy a posi lock cable thing right now. Can you hook the constant vacuum up to either one of the yellow hoses, or does it have to be one of them specificly? Maybe if I switch which one has the constant vacuum on it??? Maybe I hooked my constant vacuum to the wrong one?

You won't notice much of a difference, if any, driving in 2wd with the front engaged. Just a fuel mileage difference. So it will not buck like it does in 4wd. I'm not sure what to tell you about which vaccume line does what. If you have one of the handheld vaccume pumps you can engage/disengage the collar to see which one is lock/unlock. Of course, it will help to have it on jackstands so you can turn the wheels.

I thought about putting 4 jackstands under it, with my luck the jeep would end up in my kitchen though...lol. So, I can drive it with the t-case shifter in 2wd even if the front is locked or whatever? Sorry, I'm new to jeeps...so bare with me.

the vac line going into the cab was the one for the light. you should be disengaging but put it up on 4 jackstands and see.
