News and upcoming events from the 4x4 world you may have missed while you were busy having a life.

Events
The October Uwharrie Trail Workday is this Saturday, October 15. The Saw Mill Trail Reroute is complete and should be ready to sign and blaze; volunteers will get to see and ride it before the Forest Service officially opens the trail.

Meet for breakfast at the Eldorado Outpost at 8am, meet at Hunt Camp by 9am for work groups to be assigned. Break for lunch at about 1:30pm and wrap up by approximately 3:30pm.

Work days are the third weekend of each month, so the last work days for the year will be November 19th and December 17th.

Saturday, October 15, 4x4Cross presents the Straight Diesels Mud Race & Big Tire Pull Season Finale. The fun starts at 6pm in Peachland, NC, east of Charlotte. This is not a National Throttle King Qualifier.

The Best in the Desert Bluewater Desert Challenge is October 15 & 16 2011, in Parker, Arizona. There are five races on October 15, starting at 6:15am (PST) and again on Sunday, October 16. The course is loaded with big rocks, big jumps, deep ravines, steep downhills and high-speed drop-offs. We'll be keeping tabs on our friends in the Shaffer's Offroad 1066, still in 2nd place in BITD points!

Gulches is hosting their annual Customer Appreciation Days on October 15th & 16th. Sponsored by 4 Wheel Parts, entry is free both days. A light lunch will be served on Saturday, and Chris May and Ken Beckett will be the guest speakers. The park hours will be 10am to midnight on Saturday and 11am to 6pm on Sunday. Call or stop by any of the 4WP stores listed on the flier to sign up. Over 200 rigs have signed up to attend and campsites for this event are all filled.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Lenoir-Rhyne College will be October 15. Go out and support the Big Dixie Boobies in their third year!

Big Dogs Offroad is hosting their annual Fall Crawl in Winchester, VA, on October 15 & 16. Registration is required, as they limit the number of vehicles at each event to first come, first served.

The Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Fall Jeep Weekend Rally will be Oct 21 - 23, 2011. Wheelin' World Offroad Park is the host campground and will also be hosting much of the event. The event will include trail rides, dinners, a Show & Shine and a Poker Run and sponsors include PitBull Tires.

The last chance in 2011 for Ultra4 drivers to qualify for the 2012 Griffin King of The Hammers will be October 21 & 22 at the 4Wheel Parts Ultra4 Glen Helen Grand Prix at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, CA. The top 10 non-qualified teams will qualify and Hammerking Productions Inc. will also guarantee that the top 5 Ultra4 teams who have completed at least 4 races in the 2011 Season will qualify for the 2012 Griffin King of The Hammers!

The Fall Crawl at Harlan is the weekend of October 22. Open all day, all hear 'round, with 150 miles of marked and rated trails in beautiful country, this is an event not to be missed!

The Big Dixie Boggers are hosting the Fall Rock Harvest at The Farm on October 28, 29 & 30. This is an open event for anyone that wants to come out.

The fun starts Friday at 3pm and entry is $10 per person for a 3-day pass, plus $10 per rig. Kids under 12 are free and there will be Trick or Treating starting at dusk on Friday.

The Last Chance Qualifier is Friday, November 4, and the main races are Saturday, November 5!

To honor our heroes in uniform, there will be a Veterans' Day Commemorative Ride at Uwharrie National Forest, November 11-13. Camping is available both nights at the Art Lilley Campground and parking lot. There will be a group going to dinner Friday night and there will be a group photo taken on Saturday. This is an open event to all those serving or retired and anyone who wants to honor these brave people and those who are no longer with us!

The 5th annual RBD event will be held November 25th-27th at Morris Mountain ORV park in Heflin, AL. RBD began as a small invite only event to celebrate Ricky Berry's (of Ricky B Photography) birthday and has grown to be one of the most anticipated events in the SE! Ricky B has extended the invitation to everyone and looks forward to seeing everyone at the Biggest Wheelin' Party of the Year! Trail rides begin Friday and last through Sunday. RBD's 2nd annual hill climb “...Run what ya brung” competition will begin 10am Saturday on Los Primos with $1000 to the winner. Saturday evening will have music and camp-fire festivies... (bring a helmet). Sunday, the infamous “Barbie jeeps” will take on the Los Primos bypass trail in a downhill race.

Grant applications and all supporting material for the Tread Lightly! Stewardship Grant Program are due by 8am Mountain Time, Thursday November 24th, 2011. The maximum grant amount is $500 and those funds can be used to rent equipment or purchase supplies like garbage bags, water, or snacks for volunteers, etc. Projects can start anytime after December 1, 2011. For this grant cycle, all projects or events must be completed and final reports submitted by April 30, 2012.
