5.3-2wd trans options

Looking into what others think/opinions so speak up.

Working on a project for a very good friend. Cant really speak on the build much due to the agreement i have with him on it and its really off the wall and were trying to keep it under wraps for now....What im looking to find is what trans you all think is the best and pros and cons...

The project is running a 5.3 v8...Its a 2wd but will see lots of track and race abuse. High speeds are going to be possible so a OD trans will be nice but not a must have. Anyways what trannies are avalible for behind the 5.3 and what would yall install for a nice semi bullet proof reliable trans? thx :beer:
 
well, you can't ask for an educated opinion if you provide no information.

How much HP? Is weight a factor? lockup convertor needed? What kind of track? a real race track with twists and turns, or a dragstrip?

Seriously, we're not asking for enough photos to clone the build.. but some good info is needed.

Shooting from the hip, I'd say a built 4L60E or 4L65E. a drag car wouldn't need O/D though, and you wouldn't want it. Gear for the top of 3rd..

TH400's / 4l80's are bigger, heavier, have a taller first gear, and sap more HP out of the engine.

In a manual, a LS1 t56 is a no-brainer.

weight is no factor
it will see tracks from offroad to dragstrips
tires are going to be in 33 range
gear will be in 4.56 range
 
Are you gonna build a trans for what you want it to do? If so i would talk to the builder of said trans and have them build it to your specs. If not just put a junkyard whatever fits behind smallblock trans in and have fun.
