6.0 not taking fuel

So I got the 6.0 swap done finally and I have just one issue. It wont take fuel over about 3K going down the road, but its not setting a code. I will call Jim on monday, but theres really nothing that I can do until then I guess. The only thing that is not 100% stock is the Novak VSS that they sell in one of their kits. I put it in the adapter between the 6.0/700R. It should be alright in there, but I dont know if its wired properly or gapped correctly- there wasnt any instructions since they took it from a kit, and dont normally sell the reluctor/pickup separately like they did for me. Anyway, it does stall when you stop short like its vss related- every now and then. I had Jim program it for a manual so that the 700r would be happy but it still needs a vss per Jim to get the mileage that I want. If the pcm still thinks its revving in park, would it taper off at 3k, like its doing now? The ls1 swap book just shows vss low and vss high on the schematic, so what is that? Is that just the 2 wires on the Novak pickup- are they omni-directional? Or do they have to be wired on way? The other thing I was going to do was check the pickup with a ohmeter - would that work- to see if the gap is correct? Man, this sucks cause I know tha Novak or Jims can field this one on the weekend. Any ideas? Otherwise cranks and runs REAL good. Just wont make power.

In stock configuration, yes.
You can rev past 2900 in Park to prevent (presumably) engine damage. I would think Jim would have deleted that knowing your application though....

^^ can or cant? I told him that I wanted it 'stock' to help with drivability and we agreed that I needed a VSS for this and other things. I still dont know the correct way to wire it up, I need to know that and how to check it. I bet that its not setup correctly or wired in right.

sorry shitty fingers

Most gm PCM's have a crank relearn procedure that needs to be done with a scan tool .If it hasn't been done then it will run like dodo . Also what is the long term and shot term fuel trim values look like when driving it . do you have the mass air flow hooked up ? If so what is it reading it should be around 4.5 to 5 grams a second at Idle.

I took the VSS out and tried the lines going back to the PCM with a meter. Nothing. Cant get any voltage from the PCM to it, so I pulled the wires from the loom and they are not the color that is needed for VSS. They are for trans fluid and trans pressure if you strictly go by the GM installation guide. Also have the VSS out to bench test it tomorrow on the phone with Novak just to make sure that I have a good unit. Everything else works flawlessly, but this dang thing. I dont think the wiring is wrong, but why would the colors be off if the rest of his work is so thorough? I dont get it.

The pump is an e2000. The fuel filter is 'right' and its all plumbed with 3/8 hard line, no return. I will put a pressure meter on it soon just to be sure.

The e2000 does not put out enough fuel for a 6.0. It is fine for a 5.3 or LS1 though. Small45 ran into this problem when originally installing an e2000. A call to Jim solved the problem. You need a e8248. Or, I used a walbro 225 on my 6.0 with no problems.

Where would I find an e8248? is that a stock part for a common application?
Jim confimed that the VSS could be the culprit still. Novak backed this up as they told me to run it in closer to the tone ring closer. For this app (not all) I do in fact need the vss. Some guys have them programmed out, but I need it. Other potentials are MAF, TPS, fuel pressure and vss. Going to put it all back together with closer VSS tolerance, check pressure and if that wont work, have it hooked up to a reader to see whats up. Just trying to do my due diligence first. Man, I hate that I might have to swap pumps, thought I had read on LS1 tech that I might have to, might not depending on a few things.

At 3,000 is it smooth, or rough? what will it rev to in neutral?

If it won't rev past 3000 in neutral, it's not the pump, it's the programming. Jim may have just forgotten to program that out.

If, OTOH, it starts to run roughly, sputtering, etc... under load but revs past 3k in neutral, then I'd continue looking onwards.

WWildman, the VSS controls more than that, it also enables a lean cruise mode, even on the manual trans. vehicles. I don't know why you'd put the VSS between the engine and trans though.. that's no longer a VSS, that's a tach.

Homiezone has them, don't know the original application. This may not be your problem w/ revving past 3k, but the motor probably won't perform to its potential with the e2000. Small45's 6.0 would cutout and stumble around 4500. Swapping pumps took care of his problem.

my bad, VSS is in the Novak 700R~D300 adapter. It wont pick up the difference in low/high gear, but that should not be too big of an issue.
new pump arriving tonight

not the VSS (Reinstalled with correct gap) and not the pump. I put in a e8248 and all I ended up with was the same, but now I smell like gas... (and have a trail spare) is it possible that I have the corvette style filter/regulator installed backwards and Im 'running' on the excess side of the regulator and Im sending pressure to the tank? neighbor lent out his fuel tester so I have to wait till it reappears. screw it, Im going fishing this weekend anyway. still no codes.

ok guys, fuel pump is plumbed correctly.
Jim programmed this for a manual trans. do I need to hook up a switch to tell it that its in gear like an auto. running out of ideas...
