Anybody in Raleigh have one that I can borrow today?

I thought Wilder's and Grainger were open this AM, struck out on both counts.

You might want to check Northern Tool if you have one near you. I bought a whole set of large ones there for $15. Not the best made but nice to have around no more than I use them at the house.

heard of people using a long u-bolt nut or simply a large nut welded on top of the king pin. (plus the heat from welding helps loosen it up)

Never needed one, but, could you not use a 7/8 bolt head and weld an extension on it?? Just an idea

Eh, well.... we gave up. Tried welding a bunch of crap together, but it always broke long before the kps started to budge.

So, said fawk it and put it all back together.

you're a bad mofo if you get that thing out without the rigth tool (and heat) mine was fine so I just replace the nylon bushing/bearing and put it back together.

use a big truck lugnut (they measure 7/8), and the biggest impact you got.

Rob ellis has one, so if you're going through clt you could ask. When we took his kp's off it first had to be chained to a forklift, heated, then we added a 12ft piece of tubing to the allen wrench and pulled on it as hard as possible while beating it with a sledge for twenty minutes. Good luck with yours. :flipoff2:

Yeah, that's exactly why I put it back together as-is. I figured that even if we did find a wrench on Sat PM, we still didn't have a chance of us getting apart with what we had on hand.

Too much time spent for not having a $12 wrench, so we moved on.

seriously, the KP wears on a plastic bushing, do these things really wear out that much ? Mine could have passed for brand new on my axle ????

I cleaned mine up w/ a Scotchbrite and repackedt. Pulled for about 30 minutes and bro in law went to get the 20 ton Porta Power and logging chain. I had the high steer arm on before he got back :smokin:

Let them run dry for 20 yrs, and yeah.... they wear out.

These were pretty pitted and scored. They'll probably tear the nylon cones up faster than normal. No telling if that's 5mos or 5yrs... we'll just have to wait and see. They'll probably crack long before that anyway.
