Just wondering who's trashed a 29-spline ('97 +) 8.25? People frequently swap away from them, but it seems the story is usually "I beat the piss out of it then when i got up to 35s or 36s I swapped another axle in cause it was easier to swap than regear and things like lockers are hard to find."

So who's broken one or has seen one break? I've flogged mine pretty hard, but that's on some lil 33s.

I've been beating on mine on 35's for the past two years no failures yet. I did twist a 27 spline shaft years ago on 31's and thats when I put the 29 spline shafts and limited slip in.

I ran URE with a guy in in an xj that had only 2 wheel drive, Welded the spider gears in the big parking lot. Went all over up danial & rocky mountain loop. flogging the sh$t out of it the whole time. Drove it home & dd it for that summer. The next summer I went & picked him up in URE with both shafts broke. Mostly from metal fatigue, think he was on 33's

are you sure it was an 8.25, and not a D35? If yes, was it 27 or 29 spline?

8.25, 29 spline. on the board as muiltijeep

A d35 would never held up to the abuse I saw that weekend.

Have a 29 spline 8.25 that held up to 34" ltbs and a heavy foot for a while, then shot a spider gear through the diff cover on the trail. Got the readywelder out, filled the differential with pieces of steel and mig wire, fixed the hole and still beat the piss out of it years later. I'm beyond impressed with it. I've broken a (very old) 9" shaft doing less.

It is going to suck if I do eventually break a shaft though...
