I know its been done all before.. Should I reuse the old shock tabs(the way I am headed) or make new ones? anyone have pictures of how they did theirs? Oh and are the ranger 1310 flanges as weak as I've read or are they stout enough to take some beating? Can't be any worse than UJ straps, though, right?

Don't remember the stock shock tabs but I would reuse them if possible, lots less work. FWIW, I ran the 1310 flange with 38"s for a long time with out problems.

Reuse all your stuff. The part that concerns me is "ranger". Is it 31 spline?

I think he means he is using the flang off a ranger for the u-joint at the pinion.

I got a 1330 yoke that I got from a rear end shop. I felt that the yoke would be stronger than the flange, I busted my 1310 flange pretty quick. I run a 1310 to 1330 u joint at the pinion.

Here is my set up

ranger's use the 1310 flange (same bolt up on 8.8" out of explorer).. my axle is out of a 97 explorer. I had wanted to avoid using the explorer 1330 yoke and cross sized ujoints (more expensive I think) BUT I suppose I could go that route and use the explorer yoke and carry a spare UJ.. or I could just use the 1310 flange and use same size UJ's everywhere.. hrm.. one universal spare UJ or 2 spare UJs... ah well.

On the cherokee the shock tab is wrapped around under the U bolt for the leaf.. that was my main question.. I'll reuse it, it looks somewhat difficult to fab something similar with the limited arsenal of tools at my disposal.. I did have new perches made at Jackson Steel out of 2.5" square 3/16 wall tube, going to box the ends for a place to put the hard/soft brake line connection

we have the swap kits for like $140 ( spring perches, ubolts ubolt plates, and shock mounts), have the ebrake cables also $60, have the 1310 adapter flange new $30, have the factory bolts to 12 point metric hard to find grade 12.9, have the 1330 flanges and adpater joints. brakes brakes brakes got a pile of rotors ebrake shoes and pads cheaper then the parts store. http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/c-130046-axle-swap-parts-ford-8-8-tjyjxjzj.html
should have on tuesday a brake line kit, 2 stainless softlines, with pre bent nickel hard line(never rust) soft lines have trick mounting, and then adel clamps for securing hard lines. picture below show how we have been doing it we are modifing slightly with better softlines, and nickel hard line but mounting is much the same for XJ same mounting but softline mounts right on the edge of spring perch so ubolt can pass threw.
and back to your original question we have 1350 forged ubolt 8.8 yokes and we will have shortly 1310 u bolt yokes just put an order in to be made a couple of weeks ago so we can do away with the adapter flanges.

shock tabs on ECGS site for XJ look as though they mount on top of the axle tube on the inside side of the perch, since the stock stud is perpendicular to the axle.. am I wrong? but wouldnt that make the shock lean in at more of an angle? i thought the lesser dangle of the angle for the shock was somewhat important..

well got to thinking if you marked where the shock is inline originally on top of the axle, you can keep the angle, but under compression might the shock bottom out? well I will have to measure and see, now won't I. I'll just leave it at that and update when its in..

This is what I used. I'm running the 1310s still as I said before.

I've always called it a yoke adapter, but I guess the proper name is the flange adapter. :p

As for the shock tabs and such, just go with Chase's kit. It works great. My tabs are mounted horizontally on the axle and yes, the shocks do bottom out, but I had planned to lift the rear more to get around that.

For my YJ, I got a kit from M.O.R.E. Menu select based on model. Very nice.
All you need is a friend with a welder.
Also, start saving for a full carrier locker. Eventually, the carrier will break. Mine broke into two pieces. Luckily it stayed in place for the drive home and didn't wreck the gears.
I was able to reuse the ring gear on the Detroit locker I bought.

Well, I've decided to make some shock brackets, but instead of mounting on top of the axle like the kit mentioned above or below the axle like the stock XJ setup, it will mount of front or rear of axle tube near the vertical center of the axle tube, because I don't have immediate plans to lift it further and I don't want shocks bottoming out, but want to clearance under the spring.... I've already got the perches, just a trip to the JY for the uBolts and plates and flange adapter.
