OK, you Chevy guys please tell me about an '82, 3/4 ton, 6.2 diesel 4x4 pickup. Saw one for sale and it seems pretty cheap but I don't know much about them. What axles and transfer case should it have? What are the pros and cons of this truck, things to look for? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

most likely 14 bolt semi float rear, 8 lug 10 bolt front. I would be happy with either axle, some folks would recomend 1 ton axles. NP 208 tranfer case, good for 2.6:1 low range and relatively light weight (alum). Not as strong as np 205, but it works for my truck. Rear of transfer case also has a slip yoke, which can be a pita and expensive to replace with fixed yoke, but I won't bother to change mine anytime soon. Acording to ck5,com, which will give you much more chevy info than me or this board can supply, it comes wiht the 700r4 tranny, which should hold up to wheeling and light duty towing.

Chevys known for cracked frames near the steering box, can be fixed easily with ord (offroaddesign.com) steering box brace. Any 25 year old truck is gonna comes with other issues, have fun finding and fixing them!

All I know is that the 6.2 engines are better used as a boat anchor than anything else.

Nothing wrong with a 6.2, other than it's probably really old and high mileage.
My dad bought an 83 GMC with a 6.2, and it went nearly 400k miles before the truck just wore out.
