So my '84 straight axle has developed a case of the "pops" recently. Thought it was wheel bearings, so replaced both sides and torqued to specs once I found a big enough socket to do so! Riding down the road make a RH or LH turn I feel a healthy pop up through the floor board. I have located it to the drivers side knuckle/wheel area but am uncertain what it is. Could it be a screwed up spot on the Birfield? Or could it be the knuckle bearings?? Any ideas? Hubs are unlocked.

PRobably hub bearings, could also be sway bar link bushings gone, or the link rod that keeps the axle from rolling during braking may also have a bad bushing. May also need leaf spring bushings

Wheel bearings or knuckle bearings? I put new inner and outer wheel bearings in just a couple weeks ago. Spring bushings are new - less than two years old. I will check the other two listed! Thanks for the reply!

Knuckle bearings more than likely. Order the rebuild kit from trail gear, it's alot cheaper than going to the dealership. ex. 2 bearing(does one side) from dealer ship $85. Complete rebuild kit from trail gear 4 bearing and ALL gaskets $72.00.

LOL, I said hub bearings, when I ment knuckle bearings. ( says the knuckle head )

Snappy is correct, get the kit, but don't stop at the hub bearings, get the whole knuckle rebuilt set, it's worth the $$$ and cheaper to get all at once. $150ish for all
