I know I started a thread about the samurai I'm looking to purchase but I'm still weighing my options. I would much rather have an '85 Toyota Pick-up and I just saw this one in the FS section

http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98338

It needs alot but for the price I think I could buy it and at least fix the interior up some. I just need to get with the guy and see if the heater and whatnot still work or if the wires were cut or what the deal is.

It does have a 22RE though, which is a big plus to me. I would have a hard time with the carb

I'm just looking for thoughts and advice. This thing needs some work and idk if it would be worth putting into this truck or not

and i'll have to call him on that title situation

That's probably a pretty good deal. It's pretty low mileage and it's the coveted solid axle efi truck. I've got most of a dash for cheap if you need it, complete with (automatic) transfer case shift instructions. Brown in color. And you can probably just apply for a lost title. It says it's a regular cab on an extra cab frame, so who knows what the vin number really should be...

yea thats what i was thinking. and even if it doesnt have heat i have a few Flex-A-Lite Mojave heater sysyems at work and a JEGS aluminum dash i could cut to fit. I would just need gauges but they aren't too bad from autometer

So what, thats probably $550 in gauges and $150 in a dash and $250 in a heater... and about 10 hours of work give or take. plus a radio... i can live with that i suppose

ill tell you right now, if i had the cash, i would jump on that yota. i think its more then a fair price, but thats just me. if you could get that thing back together and driveable and be under the $3000 mark, youll be good to go my friend

thats what i was thinking. it does need work but from what i can tell not a whole lot. would make a great project for me this winter and next spring

just hope if i do get this that it doesnt break. oh and i have to work out the title for it first. the guy says its lost but who knows who's name its in

i think i may buy this, much better then my samurai option and for the price with solids and EFI. not bad. I'll get it figured out later this week. still open to suggestions though. I dont know what to do about the auto.. i bet this thing is piss poor slow.

yea the auto is gonna brung the suck if it has stock gears. which im not sure what they would be in that model. i kno some 2nd gen p/u's and runners that were auto had 4.30s 4.56s or 4.88s stock. someone correct me if im wrong

personaly, i would rather have an auto offroad bc of havin to be on the clutch all the time. with some 5.29s or 5.71s itd be great IMO

what gears would be streetable? i know when i regear my Jeeps with Yukon 5.13 gears and 37's they drive fine. I've just heard bad about these toyota auto's cause they came with the chain driven t-case. like i said before though, im no toyota tech

idk im still thinking, not like i have to make a decision today. i just want to make sure im making a good decision

depends on your tire size really, and sorta personal preference kinda deal. you have a few choices:
4.10(most factory)
4.56
4.88
5.29
5.71

ive always heard with a manual trans:
4.10 stock of course
4.56 for 31s (which is pointless to regear for 31s IMO)
4.88 for 33s
5.29 for 35s
5.71 for larger

but youll find that most people run 5.29s with 35s-39s with no complaints. then some people say 5.71s break easy yada yadada. but but Gearinstalls.com explains how they dont.

with autos most go a step deeper in gears (5.29 for 33s 5.71 for 35s etc)

cant really tell you what gear will be streetable for you. my 95 yota is my DD and my only vehicle. i run 35s on stock 4.10s. but i got a hand shaker so it helps out. i drive it 100+ mi on saturdays, and about 100-130mi during the week. its not fast at all, but it gets me there and hold 70-75 in 4th gear perfect. hope this helps

so i think i could do a 5-speed swap and a gear drive t-case and gears and have under $2k in the truck.

best truck i ever had was a yoter,84 xtra cab with 40"hawgs under it. you couldnt tear it up or stick it in mud.sold it to my brother, now i get to watch it go up and down the road.

im not to familar with the SA factory auto gears, but ill bet it has 4.56s or 4.88s. so with a 5spd swap youd done be geared fro bigger tires. it may have 4.30s im not really sure. go buy this thing!

Black wire is ground. White/red tracer is either hot all the time or acc, green with tracers are speakers. You'll just have to hook up the out puts on the stereo and run the balance and fader back and forth to decide which is which.

sweet, well seems liek there is alot of support out there (local anyway) for these things. I have to go pick-up my car today, got some bad news. its at a shop and the shop owner got into a fight and has 7 felony charges, skipped bail yesterday and is looking at 28-life. Sooo... If I don't get my car tonight it will be seized indefinitely.
And the car is a project of its own that I don't even want to deal with right now. So I'll probably not buy the toyota until I get this situation worked out. I have to finish the cage in the car first

aww man hate that for ya about the car situation. i wired my cd player in my yota straight to the battery on a toggle switch. when i tried hooking it up like your suppose to, there was lights and power on it, bu tno sound. idk why. never had a problem with it on the switch, been like that for 3 years. ive left it on fro 5 hours before and it started right up

hmm. well im sure when the day comes I can wire a radio. Does anybody know where to get DOM 1.75x.125 tubing near Boone, NC? I tried Bendco but they can't get me DOM which is the only thing I can use
