Tried to change the front rotors and pads on my brothers 87 toy today, but couldn't figure those suckers out! It's 4wd, so we took apart the locking hubs, including the bolt in the center. Took the caliper off as well as everything thing down to the spindle with the studs in it and it STILL won't budge. What are we missing?

BTW - I've done countless brake jobs, so it isn't just me.

Yes, it is just you ;)

did you remove the WHOLE locking hub assy ? it's not just a black cover with a knob and 12mm bolt, there are 6 more nuts to remove and then CONE washers do release.

Under there is 2 54mm nuts that hold the outer bearing and THEN you can remove the hub body off the spindle.

EDIT, just reread what you wrote,

the 6 studs, there are cone washers on each one, you need to SMACK the hub body at each stud with a large hammer ( leave nuts on loose, or the cone washers can shot off ) then pull the washers off and the locking hub body will slide right off.

Yea, I did remove those cone washers and that whole assembly came off. So it is just those huge nuts on there that are holding it together?

YEP, there are tabs bent over the edge of the nuts to keep them from spinning 54MM socket, or the Fun way with a good size set of channel locks.

the rotor is bolted to the back side of the hub 6 14mm bolts
