88 XJ Cherokee Brake Question, 4.0L, Automatic Trans.

When we step on the brakes it stops but take a lot of effort, feels like manual brakes. All linings and pads are good. Any idea how to check the brake booster?

Thanks

Unbolt the master cylinder and slide it forward. Remove the rubber grommet/seal and the push rod. Inspect the inside with a flash light for rust. Have someone push the pedal and inspect the inside.

If everything looks okay then what I did was remove the vacuum line and replace the rubber grommet. I put my fingers over both holes and had a buddy push the pedal. If pressure built up I assumed it was good. If it's bad I assume pressure wouldn't build up. I also found that air was escaping around my master cylinder. Almost like it wasn't sealing against the booster so I put some RTV around it. After that my brakes are working great. (I'm also running discs all the way around with stock MC/PB.)

Will do, thanks.
