OK I was driving home from the flats sunday and about half way home I start to hear a whine only under load but I really thought it was my t case about to let go so I just kept going hoping I would make it home lol. I got to looking last night briefly and thought it sounded like a right rear wheel bearing which is weird since it was only under load well I pulled that shaft and listened with it on stands and its coming from the third so I pulled out the third and the fluid looks alright its got some flake but its the original fluid from the break in period since i have under 3000 miles on this setup the pattern looks to be great but the pinion does feel a tad loose. I couldn't see anything that really stood out as bad. anyone with some good knowledge on these have any ideas as to my issue? I'm in troy and will buy the beer and pizza if anyone can come over and help me go through it.

No one?

Couple questions:
What is the backlash?
Did you set them up originally? If so, what was the backlash set up at?
Are the keepers for the adjusters tight and in place?

Sounds like there is something going on with the setup.

It is recommended to change the gear oil after 500 miles on the new gear set to get the metal out.

Under load the pinion is being pushed forward towards the front of the case (in a RWD application). If the inner pinion bearing is worn, the whine will occur under load, like you stated. The flakes may be from a worn pinion bearing which would explain the "slop" or looseness in the pinion. But a poor pattern could cause the whine as well.
Remove the carrier and check the pinion preload. That will be your starting point.

be sure to check the pre load without the ring gear running against it. On the nine its easy since the pinion bolts up to the carrier like a 14 bolt.
