9" question

What Shafts are you guys using? I am looking to upgrade at some point and want to get an idea on what it will cost me. I am not even sure what brands are out there for the 9". I am running 38's with a welded rear. Thanks
 
31 spline mosers,came in the currie housing back in 1985, and the splines are still straight
 
35 spine custom length from butchcj-8. I think he gets Yukon blanks and cut/splines 'em. I think it was 360 for both shipped 6 months ago
 
A 31 spline chromo shaft, nodular 3rd and spool is a pretty stout axle. But if you are planning on replacing the 3rd and shafts, you might as well go 35spline. Many of the different brands of 31 spline shafts are the same rebadged versions.
 
for those out there that are getting the nodular third and keeping 31 spline shafts, are you getting the nodular pinion support? Is it worth it?
 
daytona pinion support=bigger bearing not sure if its nodular or not, but the daytona bearing is a LOT bigger. As far as buying a new case read braxton's comment above. 3.250 is going to be the same price almost and allows 35spline
 
Isn't there some kind of spacers you can use if you get the 3.250 case so that you can use the 31 spline shafts? Cause I already have 31 spline alloys and a 31 spline locker, but I know eventually I'll be going 35 spline.
 
I like the idea of 35 splines but that means buying a new carrier. I will probably just buy some 31 splines for now. I think that will still be an upgrade to stock. Does that sound like a good idea?
 
the point is 35 spline axle shafts arent much more than 31 spline. It comes down to money as usual. Another $400 will take you to 35spline vs. 31spline and the extra strenght of aftermarket case
 
I'm breaking in but it's related, I've got a full dtroit in my 9 with 28 splines, Yeah stupid I know. Can I get side gears only for the dtroit to up grade shafts. Its already a carrier for large gear sets. Its also a big bearing 9. 12yrs ago it never crossed my mind for larger shafts.

I don't think you can anymore, but at one point you were able to buy only the side gears to upgrade from 28 to 31 spline, the only problem was that they were around $300 for the set. Not worth it, especially considering the fact that a spool is around $80 for a 9"...

:edit: I remember your thread on pirate, imo you should sell the axles you have now to a jeep guy and start over.
 
Funny you say that, all I got from that post was arrogance and mouthing off with no real opinions or advice. There only outstanding trait is they are complete matching Early Bronco stuff and I don't know what there worth. By the way it's geared 5.43 and I do believe that dtroit is different for lowered geared 9's. I'm trying to recall a conversation during making the order over 10 yrs ago though!
