90 YJ np231 in 99 TJ (Need help from YJ Owner)

I bought a np231 from a 90 YJ with a slip yoke eliminator kit already installed. I was going to pull the sye off and just use that but was told that I could just replace the whole 231. Is this true? The wiring connections seem to be a little different. Both are 23 spline. Thanks for the help.

What is xcase shift sequence in a YJ?

it will bolt up.. there isnt much to the 231 as fare as wiring goes.. there is the speed sensor, and the sensor for the 4x4 light on the dash. you should be able to swap them both from your old case to your new case.
 
I got the wiring figured out and got the case installed. Now it seems like the shifting sequence is different between the two cases.

99 xcase shift sequence
2hi, 4hi, N, 4lo

90 xcase shift sequence seems like
2hi, N, 4hi, 4lo

The light on the dash for 4wd only comes on one time and seems like it is when it is in neutral.

Can someone with a YJ confirm what the shift sequence is?
