I had a problem with my 91 YJ, in that the engine would run really rough and be very difficult to start and seem very underpowered until it just died. So, I just finished my tune-up and I started it it up and it ran fine until i got into second gear and then it sounded like it was runnin on 1 cylinder (out of 6). So, I managed to get it home and it died in my garage, after taking forever to get up the driveway. I know it isn't the timing, and I know the coil and distributor are fine. Has this happened to anyone else?

Are there any other symptoms? Have you pulled the plugs and seen if the plugs are fouled? First thing let if idle until it starts and pull plug wires to see if it looses power of shuts off. Once you find out which cylinders are missing try looking over other things. Could look at the distributor to see if it's bad. It could be old? Listen to the engine see if there are any vacume lines loose. Is there any water in the oil. You might have blown a head gasket? Does the exhaust smell weird like radiator fluid? I'm not sure what to tell you without better discriptions. Does it run fine all through first gear then the problem starts in second and on? Does the problem start after the engine has warmed up? I noticed you said you had tuned it up. Doeas the exhaust smell like gas or that its running rich?

yeah that sounds good

Now, I have another problem. I changed the fuel filter and it is still spittin and sputterin. I think i might have sediment in the fuel tank, but I'm not sure. it is also really jerky right now and it feels kinda like a timing issue. It wont even start now, and when it finally did last night, it idles really rough but when i rev it it is really smooth, but now, it is rough no matter what.

my jeep was doing that for a while and it was condesantion in the distributor, it would do it after it had been sitting for overnight in the rain or something like that. replacing distributor fixed it. also was doing something similar at one time few years ago, but that ended up being a head gasket or something that had blown and water got in cylinders and a valve dropped and got thrown up into the head and warped it and another of the cylinders had the spark plug crack and the tip of it fell into the cylinder. it was still running though on 2 cylinders, but very rough kinda like what you're describing. i hope that's not your problem, but you might want to pull out all your spark plugs and see what they look like.
