I picked this up about 2 months ago. '92 Cherokee with a 3" lift (coils and leaf packs) on some ProComp 31x10.5s. This will be a slow and mild "build". Not going any bigger (for now). Just finishing what the previous owner started. And between working full time and attending grad school, it will take a while to come together.

Anyway... here's how it looked when I got it.

The stereo sounded like crap. The past 18 years had not been kind to the cheap paper cones and foam surrounds on the factory speakers. I picked up some cheap Walmart speakers for the back. Then I found some nice Pyle 3-ways for $10 on Amazon.com the front. Sounds a lot better now... or it would if the plastic panel on the liftgate didn't rattle so much.

I figured I would need some front tow points sooner or later. I got these tow hook brackets from HiCountry off road, and some shackles from Tractor Supply. The brackets took forever to ship... and I wasn't impressed with the hardware they came with (mostly 8.8 or Grade 5). I replaced most of the hardware with grade 8 stuff before I installed them.

Left some nice gouges on poser rock with these things. Not a big fan of how low and forward they hang off the front of the jeep. They work for now though. Eventually I hope to get a winch bumper with some tow points instead.

I noticed some water leaking in after a rain storm, from a poorly installed antenna stud mount in the roof. After removing the stud, plugging the hole, and trying to replace my messed up headliner... I ended up doing this. Its not perfect, but not bad for $15 in materials and my first time doing a headliner. Way more trouble than its worth though. If it ever comes down again, it is staying down.

Also installed a new antenna mount above the pass side tail light and ran my coax. I have a new cb and a 4' tunable Firestik. Just need to get them installed.

I've been to Uwharrie twice since I bought it. It did pretty well both trips, minus some clearance issues, a few near-misses with overheating, and some "operator error" on my part.

That's as far as I've come with it in the past 2 months. It started some nasty death wobble on the way home from the second Uwharrie trip. I was hoping an alignment and rotate/balance would fix it, but it didn't. And to make matters worse... I'm moving to Georgia on October 1st. No time to fix it myself, and no time to wait. I ended up taking it to Rides in Conover for some quick, professional attention. I hope to have it back by the end of the week.

Other things on my "to do" list for this fall:
-remove, clean and reinstall the neutral safety switch
-install and tune my CB
-trim the front fenders
-flapdisc and herculine the rocker panels
-install my trans cooler
-uninstall a crappy alarm system the p.o. put in
-new sway bar bushings and JKS discos up front

By Christmas, I hope to be in the market for some new tires. My budget isn't huge and I drive this more on the road than I do on the trail, so they'll probably be another set of AT's. We'll see though.

It's refreshing to see a simple build on here. I really like the silver too. For the rattles, a little bit of dynamat or something similar can go a long way. You can also use the soft side of velcro around the plastic panel to quiet everything down. Interior rattles is one thing that I can not stand. Nice XJ btw.
