Hey guys,

I this summer my car started having a new problem. The car idles WAY too high. In fact, if the car is in drive it will accelerate slowly up to about 40 mph without me touching the pedal. This is clearly a problem that has really been rough on my brakes and tranny.

Any idea how to solve this problem? If it helps I have a couple friends that can help me do the work if I know what needs to be done.

Well, the car isn't getting any better by itself, so I finally brought it in to the shop. After looking at it for a minute he decided it was a vacuum leak, but because it is idling so high, it is going to be a little more complicated to find the leak.

Maybe, just maybe, if there was a little more info to run with here you may get a response.

Engine? miles ? recent history? SES light ? anything happen to the truck/engine prior to the high idle issue ?

Experiance tells me that you'll find that the intake gasket(s) are leaking or there is a leak at the IAC or thottle body. could be as simple as a vacuum line cracked or rotted.

Depending on the injection setup there may be underlieing issues as well
