97 xj grinding noise

it is automatic aw4 trans w/ 4.0. my jeep has 4.5 inch lift with 32s. recently (last 4 or 5 months) have began noticing a grind when you let off of gas at highway speeds. has began to become more apparent slowly over time at lower speeds. only grind when gearing down... shifts up fine and drives fine when it is in a gear. i just changes my trans fluid and added a lucas trans stabelizer, no help. i am certain this is my transmission. i am wondering if there is any cure to this or if anyone knows how much life i might have left in it before it goes. jeep has 205k. any thing is helpful.

You sure its not rear end noise? Check your pinion nut.

how do i check this... might be... you can feel the grind in the gas pedal when you let off if you know what i mean

4.5 lift... did you do an sye or drop the case? Check your u joints esp if you have a double cardian joint in the rear.

did not drop the t case... i did my buddies u joints last week but his was making a sharp pop under the floorboards but will check them this afternoon. also does not have a sye
