98 Cherokee issue, HELP!

To begin with let me say I am at a loss when it comes to newer car electronics!
My daughter and law has a 98 Jeep Cherokee. 4.0, automatic tranny
Her "air bag" light come on her dash and all other instruments stopped working.
Any ideas of what has gone wrong and why?
Any and all help appreciated

1) check fuses... 2) My brother has a 98 he just got used with a similer issue(s).. I sugested pulling the dash and checking the large connector behind it.. That was a common problem on the TJs, the metal under the dash would flex and the connector would eventually wiggle loose.. Turns out the XJs are equally as poorly built and that fixed that issue...
 
I disconnected the battery last night, let it sit a while and then hooked it back up. Still did it, but when they left, she cranked it and it all worked again. Where behind the dash am I to find such a plug?
