I have a 98 f150 4.6 it has 182xxx on it but has a rattle on the right side sounds like a lifter noise but have done some serching online and people that have replaced lifters timming chain and injectors still have the noise so just want to see if anyone has any info that could help

it sounds like it is right at the valve cover some people have said to use 14-w40 oil and use some additive that jack roush uses cant remember the name but thay say that it will make the noise go away

I just got done with that same kind of problem what ended up happening with it was there was a little bit of noise but no real notice in performance for about a week then ended up the rocker arm had broke along with the valve spring

Might wanna check the timing chain. Those motors have long slides on the front that the timing chain rides on and they are bad about wearing out. I have seen them worn through. just food for thought. Also check the tensioners behind those slides.

Not sure I really want to tear it down and do the guides and chains or lifters for that matter. I dont plan on keeping it for to much longer and am gong to trade it in and get a newer truck. Plus it runs fine and has done it sence I bought it and has not got any louder. I found on a ford forum that some people used 15w40 and it made it better so I tried that last weekend and seems to have made a difference so may just run it but you never know may get board one day and tear into it.
