wasup guys i got a 98 grand cherokee tsi with the v8 and quadra-trac . this is the problem, when accelerating the thing shutters like hell, like the trans is slippping. i changed the fluid and filter in it, still the same. i worked on my xj though so it was worth a try. anyone got any ideas???

You have a NV249 transfer case that allows you to be in 4wd full time. It accomplishes this using a viscous coupler to distribute power to the front and rear axles and compensates for changes in speed between them. In low gear it is supposed to lock front and rear output at the same speed. What happens if you put it in 4wd low and drive it (offroad/not on pavement). Don't know for sure but it could be the viscous coupler in the transfer case. If it is the viscous coupler start looking for a NP231 (Wrangler/Cherokee) or a 242 (Grand Cherokee I6) to replace the entire transfer case. You won't have all wheel drive anymore (selectable on the 242) but you will have a stronger and less problematic transfer case.

Probably the chain slipping in the t-case. Our '99 with Quadra-Trac2 / Quadradrive did the same thing. Had the t-case rebuilt.

if it turns out to be the transfer case, we can rebuild it for you. PM me for a price on it, we have pretty good deals on that stuff
