99 5.7 Vortec question

Hey guys,

Got a 99 5.7 vortec that I need help with. I took the oil cooler/filter adapter off and am going to replace it with a regular vertical oil filter adapter. What's the thread spec on those two bolts that hold the adapter in? I have tried 5/16x24 and it does not like that. Is it metric?

Help please!

Why are you removing the oil cooler? Larger filter/clearance (for 4x4)? I'd be interested in it if your tossing? :D

Likely... I was shocked over the amount of metric & Torx ("the root of all evil") on my '99

I am putting the vortec into my 4-runner, so I don't have room for the oil cooler. It's yours if you want it. It's in my way. Part of the bolt problem is I am not sure where the oil cooler adapter mounting bolts are. They got misplaced in the shuffle....

YES! Evil is right. I tried a 5/16 fine thread and it starts to thread, but isn't right. It probably is metric.

Got it! 5/16x18. I tried that first, but it didn't like it. I found the old bolts and that's it. Must have had some dirt or something on them. Thanks for the help Dave!
