Does anyone know of a way to fool or bypass the speed sensor in the rearend of a 99 Dakota. The truck has a 318 and 5 speed. I am seriously thinking about a S.A.S. but i would not want to keep the 9.25 mopar rearend if I did that. Also does anyone know what tranny and T case are in these trucks and will they hold up. Does anyone make a doubler kit for the t cases? I have had this truck since it had 20k miles on it and it is now a prime candidate for Crawlerism.

So, you don't want the speedo to work? That's what that sensor does. If you don't want to have a speedo, just unplug it, or cut the wiring.

The rear axle on that truck has a tone ring, you need it in order for your speedo and ABS systems to work. It has been done different ways to get everything to work after doing axle swaps, Many people have grafted tone rings and sensors into the donor axle, Do a search on pavementsucks.com or pirate4x4.com for a user under the name of HaWiiLuVeR, he was able to use a superlift truespeed sensor to fool his truck IIRC.

I was actually thinking about Deuce axles. I had a problem with this truck once before. It would die at stop lights because the speed sensor went out. Based on this I am assuming the speed sensor does more than just work the spedometer and the ABS system.

It probably is designed to kill the engine so you can't put miles on the truck without it knowing it. Kind of Dodge's way of covering their asses.
