99 wj drive shaft

I have a 99 Jeep grand cherokee. It has a cv front drive shaft. The cv at the transfercase has gone bad. Jeep place wants 600.00 for the new drive shaft. What is up with converting it to a universal joint style drive shaft? It sounds like that might be a cheeper way to go. I'm also planing on selling it in the near future. any ideas and or prices let me know......

600 for a driveshaft change?? Hahaha. Thats a good one. You can find one and do it yourself for 75 or less.

Take the shaft out yourself, take it to a Driveshaft shop and have them replace the bad CV joint. and put it back in yourself.
Or get the rebuild kit for it and DIY.

I'm curious as to why it went bad though? how many miles on it? It's only 7 years old.

i did put a small lift on it and it does have 155 thousand miles on it, i figure it was just worn out.

Yeah, the jeep place said 600 for just the shaft it self. If I can't find one at a junk yard I'll convert it to universal

doubtful. the progressive coupler on the 247 (if thats what he has) is far less prone to wearing out unlike its predecessor full time 4x4, 249.
