I have a 00 Cherokee w/ the 4.0 my a/c doesn't currently work and damn it's hot. Anyhow I charged it and nothing so I got to fooling with the plug and tested it and have no power on any of the terminals, the fuse is fine etc. My question is does anyone know which terminal suppose to have power I was thinking of jumping it to see if that was my problem?

Exactly how did you charge it? Did you have it evacuated and charged with the correct amount of refrigerant?

No I just added a can of freon to it. But I figured it was full when it sprayed out some freon from the top of the a/c after 1 can. I know this is not the right way nor accurate.

power to the compressor comes from the pressure switch
Right.

This can work sometimes, but you have to put it in slowly and make sure the can stays upright. By slowly, I mean keep the gague on the line in the "green". After a can or two, the compressor should start short cycling. When this happens, it will pull the refrigerant from the can so keep the valve just cracked open. The whole time you're doing this, make sure the A/C is on max and recirculate if you have it. Keep adding refrigerant until it's running properly and you still have the gague in the green.

Now, with all that said, you still have a leak somewhere that needs fixed. With a system with a leak, you need to replace the accumulator. It has a dessicant in it that is probably saturated. If you get it working, add some 143 with dye so you can see where you're leaking. Replace the leaky part and the accumulator. Take it to a shop, pay the 50 bucks, have it evacuated and properly filled.

willness33 means add R134a with dye but i would avoid the kind with "sealer" its pure snake oil for it will only make things worse in the system you realy need to take it to a shop have them recover the refrigerant thats in the system and replace the accumulator and check the oil thats in the compressor while they are at it then repair the leak and recharge the system with the proper amount and you will be set because r134a is measured by weight and useing a can from autozoo might be ok for some but if u dont want to risk your compressor and other related parts you need it done right over chargeing leads to comp. failure and when they fail orfice tubes , lines,accumulator,condensor,etc has to be replaced and it aint cheap a new comp.
DENSO Part # 4717008 {New; W/ Clutch}
OE recommended replacement part is $328.79 with no core charge and thats from rockauto

Indeed. Overcharging leads to bad things. FWIW, I went through the leaky condensor thing in my Liberty. Bought a new one locally for under $200. A little parts supplier in Lowesville,NC. The accumulator, compressor and orifice tube I bought off of http://www.jeepair.com/. In my case, I had the front bearing on the compressor lock up and everything went all to hell, causing me to have to drive from Orlando,FL back to CLT to get the tow rig. Drive back to Orlando, load it up and come back home. All of that in the span of 24 hours. No fun at all.

your right, its hot! and i love my AC. if mine went out tomorrow id take it to the shop and have it fixed no matter what the cost.
i had an 89 toyota one time and someone had drained the system before i bought it for some stupid reason. so i thought i was gonna recharge it with some walmart stuff. well i putt the worng stuff in and did it the wrong way and had to replace everything. cost me $800!!!
let the pros handle it man.
might be less than $100 and be well worth it in this heat!

Thanks guys, I am taking your advice and going to the shop in the morning. Hopefully I didn,t screw it up to bad.
You probably didn't with just one can. I didn't know shit about AC (still don't compared to the pros) until I had to fix one of my own. I did a lot of reading and learned more than I thought I would. It just sucks for you to have to try and learn/fix the damn thing in the middle of the hottest stretch of the year.
