Recently I installed a Taurus fan in my Heep. I got the idea from Pirate and used their suggestion as to the relay.
They call for a NAPA part # ST85 commonly used on golfcarts for continous duty higher amperage use.
I wired it all up like a Ford Solenoid. I didn't work. I got out the meter and checked everything, still nothing. took it back and got another. Still,.... nothing. I couldn't get it to actuate. So knowing some of you run the Taurus fan, diceided to give that a try. I called Rich. Rich used a different method and was too fast to let me know what it cost. Ok so I had already over spent, but was determined to use what I had. He suggested I call Greg Slade. Greg had the answer! Seems unlike the Ford solenoid(relay), it is not self grounding. so, of the two small poles for wire connections, one if for the +switch, and the other for the -ground. Worked like a charm. I sure appreciate the help guys! See, even us old dogs can learn new tricks!

Oh and forgot to mention. Greg had a little salt to rub into the wound also. Seems his SO works for Advance Auto, and she was able to cross the Napa Number over to an Adance number, and get one rated the same for half the price. Live, and learn.

the part is made by GP SORENSEN
advance auto part number SS74

One part I played hell trying to find was a simple 5 wire pigtail for a regular old 20/30 amp relay. I know i could have used spade terminals but using this is idiot proof AND NEAT. I found one at carquest, finally. part number is S-654

one more note on this taurus fan swap for anyone who is interested, the MARK V111 fan is 18" in diameter instead of 16 or 16.5. EXACTLY the same size as my radiator core only in my yj.

This is the part number for the relay to build your own fan controller. My taurus fan is on low with the key on and switches to high automatically by using a temo switch. I also have a 3 pos switch on hte dash. OFF, MAN. HIGH, and AUTO

Ok, now I'm more confused...

I was using the parts list and diagram out of this guys buildup, but NAPA didn't carry fan controllers or relays. I didn't even bother to see if they had any diodes, radiator mounts, or anything else in the list. I'd love to find a local source for all of this stuff, so I could just go get started.

# Hayden Imperial adjustable fan controller PN: 226204-123647 (c. $30.00)
# Bosch High Power Motor Relay PN: 0-332-002-156 at waytek wire
# 1N5408 diode (to keep from burning up a relay from fan "free-spin "
# basic DPDT switch
# Lots of different gauge wire
# Hayden Imperial radiator mounts (they're almost like zip-ties to hold the fan on the radiator, they actually work quite well)

Here's what I've found on the subject:

Here's what i did... I was unable to find the bling dual speed fan at the local junk yard but they had plenty of single speed units.. Dual speeds came on the 3.6? (larger) V6 and the single speed came on the 3.0L V6s. I bought a $10 75AMP relay off ebay and wired it up, it's always on with the ignition. I've only ever been in water that high 1 time in my life and that was Dayton the one year after it had rained alot.. So ill worry about a kill switch later :)

The single speed was the same size shell just different motor.. AND IMHO its about Medium speed compared to the low/hi of the regular Dual speed unit.. I measeured the amp draw but ive since forgot.. Want to say it was <20 amps as I initially blew a 20amp fuse after 45min running it the first time out..

btw the relay i got was a generic bosch relay..

Yeah, I got the dual speed fan from Wagners, there were a bunch of the 3,8 liter ones when I checked.

I don't really care about the water crossing (my shit will have other issues before the fan hits water). I really wanted the thermostat to control it (lets me hear the engine better and diagnose noises while its cool). Guess that would make things simpler.

-- Anyone have local sources for the diode or relay?

sorry about the crappy diagram, fwiw Rich helped me with this last year sometime.

All you need is two of the golf cart solenoids and 2 small relays and a three position swith and two LEDs. I think I spent about 40 bucks on everything.
