A little video I put together...

We shot it Sunday and I finished it and uploaded it yesterday. It's just under ten minutes long. If the 'behind the windshield' footage is boring you, just skip to 3:15, it starts getting more interesting there. I was hoping for more/better footage but I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out.

Shaky-cam... I know. I really need to fab up a camera mount bar :shaking:

And finally, the outtake reel. I dunno what in the hell we got stuck on but she just wouldn't go. We certainly need lockers for our Jeeps.

they were wheeling at "the spot" at least thats what we used to call it back in the day, years ago when i was in highschool.....used to do a lot of partyin/wheelin/campin out there til duke power said there was to be no more camping on any of their property

oh yea, and i was able to tell that in the first 26 seconds.....me and the guys i went to highschool with started the trails out there years ago

if you need lockers for out there at the spot you need to learn to drive your shit, not hatin or nething but ive had my lowrider out there when it was a muddy wreck...and used to wheel an open/open wrangler with 31's with no prob

basically what i meant....at the time that i wheeled there i knew the farmer that owned the land around it, and it was cool as long as we didnt tear nething up....then duke power came in and basically took that land from the guy, then passed the bs that there is no camping/no trespassing etc on their property on the lake....that also includes the islands

Wait a sec, everybody take a chill pill. First of all, that land is no longer owned by Duke Power. It is now owned by a guy who owns a land development company, his name is Rick Morton. That's how I learned about 'the spot' in the first place. I know him and WE (the club) have permission in writing to wheel there.

Also it's Lake Norman, not Lake Davidson.

And to the mods, please do not delete this thread. It's not an illegal wheeling spot if you have permission.

see sheriffs bustin motorcycles there all the time...

I think you are thinking of a different spot. I've never seen motorcycles out there. Just people using the boat launch.

everyone has a spot to go to and they do it knowing if its "ok" or not; its their choice and their ass so let it be. it looks like a fun place to go mess around in some mud and not break anything

nope, the end of the road right there at the boat launch- I launch my kayak there.

Nah, everybody in this thread has a point when they say you shouldn't wheel where you're not supposed to. They just didn't know our circumstances.

As far as that trail goes, it's fun for about an hour but after that you've pretty much conquered everything and you lose interest. It's way too short for my tastes and I'd rather take on dirt, vert humps, hills and rocks as opposed to mud. Right now we don't have anywhere else to wheel legally and group URE trips require planning (everyone has their own schedules, etc.) So for now we're kinda forced to wheel there if we just want to get out and wheel whenever. Today I met this guy who wants to join and he apparently knows a few places around here we can wheel legally. I've heard (Troutman) knows of some places that we can wheel on legally so I'm gonna try to find out about that too, apparently the land is owned by the gas station. Hopefully we'll have some new spots over the next month. In any case me and Cush will probably be out at that same spot this weekend with a new club member unless we can find something better.

Yeah, that's the place. I've never seen any bikes there though, I guess I've just never been there at the right time.

You drive a white Cherokee? If so, I think we saw you Sunday. There was one there with a green kayak sticking out of the hatch.

i too have never seen motorcycles out there, but then agian havnt been down there in a long time

ill find some pics of when we used to wheel out there and post em up for ya....when the waters down the beach is interesting to wheel(a LOT softer than it looks) and we too would get bored and end up seein who could run into the lake and back the farthest without gettin stuck

As far as I know he bought the land from Duke near the end of last year, he wants to develop that land and build houses/retail on it as part of the 'Langtree at the Lake' project coming in the next five years (I used to live in Bridgeport down Langtree so I know all about that POS project, it's basically going to be another yuppie 'Birkdale Village' but for Mooresville.)

Lake Davidson, I see what you're saying now, I always thought that was part of Lake Norman, sorry.

I'd love to see pics of what the spot used to look like.

I'll have to try the beach but I doubt the water will be low enough this year. It's actually higher than the norm this year.

How can I get permission?

I'll ask for you, Rick is a close family friend. PM me some basic info (name, age, model/year of your rig) and I'll see if he'll print you up a recreational permission slip (it's only to keep you out of the slammer in case someone does call the cops, I just keep mine in my glovebox.) If he'll do it I can give it to you in person somewhere.

Well I glad you have your ducks in a row.

Most don't

I put the lift on that Jeep.......

It looked a lot cleaner the night before Travis left for the islands.

Let me know when you are going out there next, I would like to check it out.

Here is the deal...I cleaned up this thread, and removed any locations listed that are not 100% legal, etc..

DO NOT put locations of places to wheel, because people will just show up and wheel even if they do not have permission.. If you have permission to wheel this place like you say then have fun and if others want to wheel with you then have them contact you in a PM.. If I see addresses or locations listed I will close and delete the thread.

If you have questions feel free to PM me

I'll let you know the next time we plan on going out there, we'd love to have you. The more the merrier.

So you were one of Travis' friends or the previous owner of the Jeep (I mean before Travis?) I actually didn't talk to Travis at all when I bought it, his brother did the deal for him since he was away on the islands. Seems to me you did a pretty good job on the lift, everything looks straight to me. I was wondering... is it all Black Diamond, shackles and shocks, or just shocks? And if just shocks, who made the shackles? Also, do you know what company made the wheels? They look like American Racing to me but there's no markings on them so I can't tell.

It was a bit cleaner before I bought it, I'll admit that. I couldn't wait to get it offroad and I hit some trails the second day I had it. More than anything else I bought it because it looked like it was already pretty capable, but still pretty close to stock and not ragged-out like most Jeeps are. Couldn't argue with the price either.

I got the sand out the console lock cylinder... I got the sand out of the seat levers so they work again like they should... Gotta love some WD-40. I cleaned the valve cover and the PCV so it doesn't have the oil/airbox blow-by problem anymore... replaced the temp sensor... replaced the valve cover gasket... and I've fixed a few small things here and there. Overall I feel like I got a good deal and I like it so far. With the included mods I don't think I could have done much better on a YJ. I definitely like it better than the XJ's I've had.

Sounds fair enough to me.

It still is. I didn't want to say anything back to redneckjeep but those mudholes are trickier than they look.

What patch of trees was the mall behind?
