I have a 2000 ford expedition, 4x4, 5.4L, 95,000 miles, auto. I get a drive line vibration from about 45 mph to 55 mph only while accelerating. I have inspected the drive shaft and the U-joints are tight. The only slop I can find is where the slip yoke slides in and out of the rear of the transfer case. The slip yoke will "wiggle" around a small amount. If feels as if the output shaft and slip yoke fit is worn. The direction of movement is perpendicular to the centerline of the tranfer case output. Small amount is probably 1/32 - 1/16". Is it supposed to move like that? Or, should it just slide in and out of the transfer case without the sloppy movement?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Shouldn't be any wobble really...

I was afraid of that. Is there a bearing/ bushing that could be replaced? I am not that familiar with the ford xfer cases.

most likely splines are worn, not an internal bearing
