Still trying to figure out 2 things:

1) Does ABS set a check engine code on a 96 and newer vehicle?

2) Is there someone that makes the tone rings to put on HP44 and 9" for ABS?

i thought tone rings were only in the rear and ive never seen one for a 9" . maybe someone else will chime in to help.

ABS system is seperate. and most are using wheel speed sensors for for the front ABS not diff tone rings. eityher way a waste who wants ABS. pull the bulb

Yes, on this 96 ZJ, it is wheel speed sensors on the front, which looks to me like a tone ring at the ends of each axle, not in the diff. I don't care if I have ABS or not, but my question is do I need it to pass NC inspection, so that is why I was wondering if I will have a check engine light if I don't have it. When the inspector hooks his computer to the vehicle, will it fail it for not having ABS hooked up?

You won't have a check engine light, just an ABS light. And like Cperry said, he can't fail you because of an ABS light.

Shouldn't cause the check engine light to come on. The ABS light will probably come on. You could disconnect all the wires from the ABS unit and it should go off.
