AC doesn't work, recommend a Charlotte/Mt. Holly/Gastonia shop

Like the title says. Bought a used XJ (1991). AC doesn't work. Wife says AC gets fixed before anymore mods or I have to start wheeling my Charger that has AC so she's comfortable.

Help a brother out.

You try charging it? They have kits at Vatozone. Its easy.

Pretty sure it's R12. Can't buy that anymore that I know of. Thinking I have to take it somewhere to have them vacuum out the R12 and replace with new stuff.

yes it is r12 and you would have to have the system retrofitted with r134 o-rings, txv or orfice tube depending on the type of system it has. I dont no how much a shop would charge you but ive retrofitted a few cars and the part all together range from 100 to 150$.

Thanks for the recommendation to use CMD Automotive. Called them today and it looks like they charge about $230 for the conversion. Taking it in on Tuesday.

You dont HAVE to retrofit the 12 system to 134a. NAPA has some stuff called "Freeze 12" and it goes in where the R-12 was with no modifications needed. Make sure you have a thermometer in the vents when charging, it is easy to overfill. Did that on my wifes van and worked well til it leaked out again.
