My buggy has developed some ignition problems. Took the HEI coil off and it's all corroded in there. Oh well, it happens. My old coil was a Accel 140005 and I have a new 140003. Still nothing when I put it on. Maybe I should replace the cap and rotor also, but what's the difference in the two? I see one has a red and yellow wire and the other has a red and white wire. There's also some difference in the application, but both seem to work on chevy small block.

Link doesn't work.

By "still nothing" do you mean you get no fire from the dizzy at all? IF that's what you mean and that's the original reason you changed the coil, AND you're sure you have power to it, I'd seriously suspect the ignition module.

Yeah, no spark. I just ordered a refurb dist on ebay for $40 shipped, but my big question is what's the difference in the coils? Maybe this new coil isn't compatible.

you chech that the ground strap went back in with the new coil ? or was at least intact ? What about the center carbon and spring under coil ? either of those missung could keep it from firing, or firing well

As for a Dizzy, I bought a NEW unit from Jeg's a year or so ago for $90, top to bottom new, included cap coil, rotor and igniter, drop it in, hook it up. Been working great since

The one I pulled out, well, advance weights were worn thru, and the advance mechinisim was frozen, rotor wouldn't turn on the shaft with centrifigul advance even IF the weights hadn't worn thru

Yeah, put in a new ground with the new coil and no spark at all. Got one of the nice spark plug testers that light up when you have spark. Also installed new spark plugs this morning.
