How hard is it. Dealer says it's five hours worth of work. Meaning they can probably do it in 3.5. Is this something that requires special skills or tools?

Would you tackle it?

What year and motor? I do em all day long. I could give you some pointers.

Do you have a big fawking impact wrench or a 12 ft breaker bar?
Good point. I take for granted our nearly endless suppy of air pressure

i never use an impact on the crank pulley, i always use the holding tool and a breaker bar.

A buddy of mine broke the can on a Saturn that way. The force transferred through the chain to the head where it bound up and snapped. This was after breaking several bars ans sockets. I've repaired one of the Honda crank bolt specialty tools that cameoff one of the major tool trucks. It had broken at the head, and this was a stout piece of pig iron! I'd personally rather subject one to the pulsed blows of an impact than the constant twisting of a huge breaker bar. A lot of folks use the starter to provide the torque. Seems like that could be really hard on the crank. There's a lot of ways to skin this cat, but none are easy, I guess.

I use a 3/4" to get it off and 1/2" with a torque stick back on. 2-3 times a day for the last 6 years.

I do have impacts. I do have a breaker bar. I don't have endless air. But, I can wait a few min if need be.

Will I need the holding tool or will an impact make it happen?

It is an 04 Accord 3.0 Coupe if that matters

I'm more concerned about all the other stuff. How much of a pain in the ass is this going to be? It'll save me close to 400 bucks if I can do it. That's worth a days worth of frustration to me.

i don't know if a 1/2 impact will get it off.
rhsctj may be able to tell you if you need the holding tool with an impact.
if you've done timing belts before it shouldn't be a big deal to do this one.
replace the w/p while you're in there, and make sure your cam/crank seals aren't leaking.

My F-I-L has a 3/4" impact. Might not have the right size socket though. That might be the kicker.

This would be my first timing belt change.

Would you go with Honda parts or what name brand. Probably going to order off Rock Auto if I decide to do it.

I would use honda parts. If you can get a gates Tbelt, aisin waterpump and tbelt tensioner, those are the factory manufacturers. Lee might be right. Mmight not be a good one to start. No special tools 10,14,17,19mm. Just call me and leave a message tonight. Im going to my realtors office after work to make an offer on a house so I dont know when Ill be free.

That looks like it would be good except for the fact that there are no pictures showing up for me.

I still need to call RHSCTJ. Been a busy two days. I am very undecided at this point.
