My brother is in the market for a extended cab 4x4 toyota in the $4500 max range. It won't be a wheeler, so he's not in need of a solid front. Just something he can DD, take on the beach on the outer banks, and throw his bike in the bed. We've driven a few locally, a 91 and a couple 93's, all 3.0 V6 SR5's. Is there anything in particular we should keep an eye out for regarding problems or issues? All 3 seemed to be sweating oil from the rear of the pan. Not sure if that's common, or even a sign of a greater problem. Any advice and knowledge you toyota guys can share would be appreciated. Thanks.

Stay away from the 3.0! Be sure to check the frames for rust. They are really bad to rust behind the gas tank. There has also been a steering rod recall on the 3rd gen trucks. You might want to see if that has been fixed.

Ok, then. Stay away from the 3.0 and check for the typical rust. Any other drivetrain issues? What year(s) are the 3rd gen?

Can't hurt to check it out. You've got a PM.

Also check with Toyota Dad on here. He always has a few very nice Toyota`s for sale. Great guy too! He`s located in High Point.

You can beat the hell out of a 2.7 just like a 22RE. i love the motor in my 96 Taco, just got the head and timing set redone. Should last another 180K
