Ok just broke a front axleshaft on my 79 f-250 with 37in mt, was wondering how good aftermarket axles are, or should i just put a dana 60 under truck, What yall think. Just got some literature on Randys new 4340 axles and dont know what to do, the truck is a weekend mud toy 400m 3.50 gears.

I have a 79 Bronco with 460 and dana 44 with a locker. I run heavy MRW beadlock wheels and 38's with 4.56 gears. I made the front survive with yukon axle shafts and longfield joints.

I agree with Gubni. I ran CTM joints and CrMo shafts on my '73 Bronco with 5.43 gears and 36" tires behind a mildly built 302 with no problems. I also ran Crmo shafts and Longfield joints on my '82 CJ7 with 39" Swampers and a built 360.

I hammer my stuff pretty hard and after putting the shafts and joints in I had no problems. Before this, I broke a lot of stuff. Also, it is very important to set your steering stops according to the manufacturers specs.

Put a d60 under it. Forget about it.

Info

Thanks for the info, i like the idea of just using yukon alxes but it they break ive wasted the money i could have bought a 60 with.

there are better shafts then yukons for around the same price, I was there at yukons facility for the axle breaking tests that spawned the literture that was sent out including the video of said breakage. Lets just say that what I saw did not reflect exactly what was released. With the info we gleaned from axle breaking we are continuing to sell Nitro shafts, as an upgrade for 44's we have brought in an american forged shaft with special heat treat. you can run full nitro kits or nitro inners with our outers for a bit more money and more strenght. We know this to be the strongest most economical shaft kit on the market. Stubs break at nearly 2,000 lbs less than the inners. So stub shafts are the weak link. we have seen this both on the machine and in what we get back for warranties. Which is why we felt doing the outer 44 stubs were nesiscary. All the shafts we sell carry our lifetime warranty and the manufacturers lifetime warranty. Combine these shafts with the nitro 300m ujoints we helped release and you have a pretty solid 44 at a very reasonable price. If this was your first stock shaft breakage a 44 kit is going to be a huge upgrade and likely the last of your worries. If going to a 60 consider 35 spline stubs which will require lockouts or slugs, cost of around $500 and you still have stock very old inner shafts. Is a 60 much much better yes but they can get costly quick, the difference is once you build a 60 correctly then thats it, its fairly bullet proof particlarly for your tire size. And you get the benefit of larger wheel bearings, king pins steering components ect. but then leads to wheel selection, packaging a whole other can of worms. It will be much cheaper to build the 44 and we have a shaft kit that will hold 37's. but ya 60's are mo better

Thanks
