my rig is a 99 TJ sport. i know the light turns when you first start up, but just in the last two weeks or so, ive noticed my airbag light randomly turn on and off throughout my drive to work. i took a look at the manual and all it says is to see the dealership. im not sure, but i figure it might be a time sensitive check up thing for proper functioning, dont know though. anyone have an idea on this before i drop a ton of money to have it looked at?

you more than likely have a fault in the SRS system, and you need a real scanner not a code reader to read it because the small autozone code readers cant communicate with the SRS systems. But most shops wont charge JUST to hook up a scanner to it and check out what the problem is... thats atleast the way it works at the shop i work at in Raleigh. Go to a random shop and ask if they charge for hooking up the scanner to check for fault codes, if yes then go to the next shop untill you get one that does it for free.

Might check the fuses, If a fuse blows to the Air Bag the light will come on, could be one about to go.

have the clock spring checked, my TJ startded the same way, air bag flashing, cruise not working and the horn not blowing.

Most shops WILL charge you to hook it up to a scanner. Think about it. It takes time and a damned expensive scanner to look at that stuff. They got bills to pay too. Odds are, if you fix it there, they will knock off the diagnostic fee. But yea you've got a fault somewhere in the system.
