Had to put a tube in one of my 44's due to a gash in the sidewall, took it to get vulcanized long story short it didnt work so I put a tube in her. Anyway, I know they say not to air down a tube'd tire cause it can cause the tire/tube to spin on the rim and kill the tube. Well if you have beadlocks so that the tire can't spin on the rim can you air down the tube or will it spin itself inside the tire?

If so whats the minimum psi I should run in the tube? Normally I air down to like 2 or 3 psi but Idk if I should anymore on the one with the tube, gonna stick the 44's on my bud Kevin's blazer for the BDB ride next weekend so just kinda curious bout that.

Thanks

I guess I need to be educated...how is the tube going to spin on the rim? If it does, the stem would come off. If the tire spins, I guess balancing is hosed but otherwise?

I have six tube tires on my rig and I air them down every time I go off road. Without knowing it, I even had one at 0 psi (flat) and running at 45-50 mph. Not advisable but I aired up and it runs fine (slow leak).

Well thats the problem I've been told it spins and rips the stem off thus ending your fun . . .

Rick, think about this if the tire is bead locked & can't spin on the rim how is the tube going to spin? Air them down & run them as long as you have bead locks your fine

I mean thats what I was thinkin too, but a few people I have talked to weren't to confident that it wouldn't spin inside the tire so thats why i am kinda worrying, idk i guess I'll just have to find out right . . . I'll bring a few extra tubes with me anyway since my tires on the Jeep are all inner tubed.

I ran a tube in my beadlocks before selling them. I ran aired down several times but eventually the stem ripped off the tube. The tire doesn't spin but when you are aired down the tube creeps around inside the tire as it rolls. This causes it to move back and forth basically sawing the stem off. I think I made 3-4 runs on a tube.

You also need to make sure that you duct tape or patch the rip from the inside so that it doesn't pinch the tube and cause a leak.

Do your tubes have a lug on the side opposite the valve stem as well? I think a big part of it is how much you're planning on airing down.

Sometimes I would run low 4-6psi, but for the most part I would keep that tire at 10-12psi just to reduce the chance of trouble. I also kept it on the back so it wouldn't have to deal with the side loading of steering.

Ok maybe this is just an idiot idea...
but what if, when you put the tube in, using some adhesive, caulk, putty, whatever to make it stick to the inside of the tire and not go anywhere? Oooh even better, spray adhesive.
Yes, thiiadded material would f-up your balancing, but if you're just using 'em offroad etc, who cares, it souldn't be that bad.

i have tubes in my fronts, and no beadlocks. i run them at 3psi and haven't had any prob. but my tires are a little differant. when i had tubes in the back i spun a couple valve stems off. the back didn't have enough wieght to hold the bead on. with your bead locks you should have no prob.

are you done yet?

I don't think so, we havent seen the "Why can't I steer like everyone who doesn't have a 10 foot scrub radius?" thread yet... :flipoff2:

Hey Rick,

We used to run tubes in our dirt late model tires! Left side carried 5-8 psi, and we rung em like hell!

You arent going to spin a tube if the tire cant spin:burnout:

BTW...if yer gonna do this, specially runnin low air and bashin rocks...Baby powder the heck outta em when ya install em!

No I'm sucking I know, I'm scramblin to get it done in time, but I have run into some finance issues especially since my Z71 broke and I'm trying to fix it at the same time, so It's still up in the air if I'm gonna be able to bring it to the BDB ride . . .

It's funny the only reliable vehicle I have Is the 81 Chevy on 44's, I've been DD'in that thing for a while now since I can't keep anything else in working condition
