My friend wants to truggy his toyota. He is running tons and 44's. He is wanting to do airshocks in rear. We were wondering how you determine the best shock travel length for the application. I would think that 18 inch travel is best being it is longest is that wrong? any reason for using shorter one? thanks for help.

most on here will agree that you will not get all the travel out of an 18" shock. The best way would be to measure so he knows exactly what he needs but a 16" shock would probably work fine.

this may be stupid question but what do we measure?

And also since they are all the same price I figured why not 18 I just have no clue

If there the same price and you can fit them go with 18". I would rather have an extra inch or two than bottom out and break the shock.
I got 17" to go on my yota. They were the same price as 15" so I said what the heck. Just don't forget about bump stops.:D

You havent given us much info that is needed. if hes already four linked in the rear, you can measure total travel from stuff to droop, and decide what you need. if hes not linked yet, youve got a lot of bigger kinks to work out before you even get to the shock aspect. anti squat, roll centers, ect. check out the online 3 /4 link calculator.
that being said, on my last rig, i personnally went with the 18's. full range of travel, too. caution- it is possible to have too much travel. i believe my next buggy( single seat rear engine) will only require 14's. i think you can be TOO flexy, which hampers stability.
ps. if you measure and mount correctly, there is no chance of bottoming out the shocks. do yourself a favor and use bumpstops and limiting straps- thats what their for.
