After watching the second episode I had some thoughts and would like some opinions. I am thinking this is about a two+ week long race they said eight trails broken into two legs (I am not sure of the exact time frame).
Should it be a run what you brung type thing, send in pics and rig specs and you have to bring that rig? Would viewers prefer that just the "person" be entered and then show up with who and what they could best put together or buy in the allotted time before the race? Assuming gas would be provided and brought to you at the camp spot each nite but you and your team mate had to provide everything else, what and how would you pack? That being said here is my opinion;
I don't like the roof rack, seems seems top heavy, awkward to access and gets hung up on low overhanging trees and branches.I would want a truck with storage racks mounted inside the bed for all my spares and supplies, maybe a canvas soft top to cover it all. I think I would want a V8 for hill climbing and general wheelspeed, a snorkel would be mandatory due the water crossings or Intake inside of cab. Lockers and very good approach angles are a must. I would have a pull pal tossed in there for the boggy treeless sections and big ole warn powerplant on it. Yeah I'm going fullsize squarebody chevy truck 0n locked tons, and about about a 38". I think a hammock tent that could be setup for cold weather and a pile of MREs would suffice for my personal needs.
Now who would you invite, young healthy winch cable puller or old wise fix it guru?
me; young fast cable puller.
Now for run what you have;
My sammi on 33s, locked and loaded toys F&R, geared transfer case, fully skidded underbelly with a tracker 8v in it. I think some type of rack would be a must due to the physical size limitations of a samurai. Same personal items, and same winch guy. I think you would have to be creative to package it all in this size vehicle to be proficient and not bring enough so you are weighted down.
Just slow at work today and got to thinking about various scenarios.

I like the run what you brung idea, but with the cat out of the bag now everyone that wants to participate is gonna be building their rigs in anticipation of being picked for the event. Id say level the playing field with tire size but unlimited build.
