AMC360 T stat housing plug

On back of housing. Anyone know what it takes to remove this?? It is square, but 3/8 is too big and 1/4 is too small. Looking like maybe 5/16, but don’t have anything like that. It is pissing me off at the moment. Thanks

It is 5/16". Kind of a special size that AMC and Jeep used for a while

I have or had, not sure where it's at now, The old service station, double ended, plug remover. It has about 8 different sizes on it.Maybe find something like this photo. Pic didn't print, but this Search will give you ideas.

Look for a 5/16 drain plug socket, or 5/16 pipe plug socket. I've seen them labeled as either one, depending on brand. Most of the automotive tool brands make them, but I'm not sure if that's something you can easily get in-store. I know nothing about AMC engines, but I know the tool you're looking for.
