drive shaft u joints, wheel bearings. Or...I have heard catalitic converters making all kinds of crazy noises. Could be something metal rubbing on metal, like exhaust piping rubbing under there somewhere.
Best thing to do is have a buddy drive and lay under there and listen. Hang on tight!

Or just turn up the jams and drown it out:beer:

I don't think there is any metal rubbing, I'll double check though.

:beer:are you volunteering? I have a creeper you can use & will provide beer...lol I tried that but my wife said something about me being accident prone. and it wasn't a good idea.:D

I tried that too, but i can't drown it out at highway speeds...:driver:

I guess I'll start taking stuff apart in the morning. I hope it's something easy like a u-joint. damn those gerbils...

Sounds like the centering ball in the joint in the front drive shaft. Google: angry sparrows jeep wrangler

Squirt some WD40 on the centering ball portion of the front shaft, near the tcase. If that makes it go away temporarily then it is likely the aforementioned "angry sparrows". Or just pull the front ds to do the same test. Maybe just need to rebuild that CV joint.

Great... I have the same questionable sound coming from my Jeep. Although its only heard at low speeds it sounds more like something to do with the brakes.. Ill investigate this weekend.

this is a long shot...but I'll post it up just in case it happens to anybody else...

I thought I had the "angry sparrows" issue on mine once...and it ended up being an outer shaft seal on the D30 that needed grease...the aftermarket seals with a zerk fitting...can't even remember the brand, maybe Alloy USA?
