I'm finishing up fitting all my pieces to build my winch mount bumper for my EB. I need a quick answer to a question though. I'm using synthetic rope and a Hawse fairlead. The spool winds from the bottom and was wondering how high I should mount the fairlead? I know in the center of the spool is too high. Should the fairlead be close to being in line with the last layer of rope or maybe 1/2 inch lower?

I would put it so the top layer of rope is close to the bottom of the fairlead, so that as you unwind it, it's more centered... am I clear as mud?

Yep I get what your saying. I've seen several bumpers I like, but never really paid a much attention to the details like the fairlead positioning. I was just going to use the TLAR (That Looks About Right) method which works most of the time.

Whatever you think looks good and will function well. I like to mount mine a little higher than what Rich mentioned because when I'm winching, 90% of the time I'm pointed up hill. When the winch line is pulled tight, it doesn't rub on the top of the fairlead near as much. But, if I winch straight, it sometimes rubs on the bottom of the fairlead. But you also have to think, you will rarely winch within the last wrap of the cable (usually a decent amout of cable pulled out), so the method I use helps out a little with that as well. Catch my drift???

Whatever you use is just fine. I usually eyeball it on my rig.
