Anti-wrap Question

I'm going to build an anti-wrap bar for my buggy. Its still leaf sprung. Somewhat a copy of a Formula Toy. Anyway I was wondering if there are any disadvantages to attaching it to the center of the axle instead of to one side or the other. Also if I do have to put it to one side which side is best??

Not sure on which exact placement is better, it seems like the center would be best thou since anti wrap bars can sometimes be limiting to suspension flex if you put it in the center you'd have less of a flex limiting point since the diff is kinda where the axle pivots anyway. On mine I used a greasable shackle to attach it to the frame, that will help it flex better as well.

steve you might want to look at the one on chases truck, its as close to center as you can get without getting into the driveshaft. are you guys done yet? i though tellico was in a week?

Putting it closer to the center lets you use less of the shackle's travel when the axle moves around. That said, mine is off-center some (basically where the pumpkin meets the axle tube on a Toy axle) and the shackle hardly moves front/back.

Do make that bar as looong as possible...

Offset it to the right is *supposed* to be better than the left, but I am not stating that as a fact...

I just made one last night. I'm going to offset it to the pass side next to the center section.

Looks good, though I like to have something threaded to allow for adjustment.. (I don't trust my measurements that much. :p )

A heim at the front end will also allow for the important side-to-side movement. (the heim can slide along the shank of the bolt)

Thanks..

I'm going to try it without a heim first and then add one if needed. Low on cash lately...

Where can I get one locally? Tractor Supply?

I got mine from rodendsupply.com - I used the 43,000lb one, it's probably slightly overkill, but is there such a thing? :D

Wow, what size is that? 1 1/4"? I'd probably use a 3/4" heim if I were to get one.

5/8-3/4.

I believe the designation is 10-12

I carry 'em, and have right & left hand thread in stock. Also have threaded weld in inserts for 1" ID tube. :driver:

what are you doing for a crossmember to bolt it to

i have to build one pretty soon here. just been putting it off.

I just made a x-member last night out of 1/4" angle iron. It worked out really good.

same joints that hold my rockwells in place.

Yeah, but how much force can a chassis that weights less than the axles exert? :flipoff2:

Rich "I'm jealous of that rig" Q.

Let's see some pics of your rigs with monster heims!

can you show me some pics of how you mounted it and the xmember

here ya go...

I welded the x-member to the frame. It's two pieces of 1/4" strip plate welded together.
Then welded on some square tubing for the shackle mount.

I'm not running a heim joint, might add that if it doesn't flex enough.

Can someone explain to me how the axel will still be able to "pivot" with that thing on there? I thought there would have to be some kind of eye bearing type thing, maybe I’m thinking of a spherical rod end, at one end or the other. Maybe I am not getting something. I under stand that there is only one bolt on the cross member allowing it to pivot from there but what about the other axis? Thanks.
