any good 4x5 shops in charlotte area?

Give Andy a call @ Carolina Rock Shop 704 525 5109 He will be professional and help with all your 4x4 needs;)

X2 on both. I've had nothing but excellent dealings with both of them although its been a few years since I've dealt with Tarheel

Tarheel 4x4 has not let me down yet. I have not had the chance to deal with Carolina Rock Shop yet, but I hear nothing but good thinks about them.

Take one peak into Carolina Rock Shop's work area, and the rigs he's been entrusted to tear down to absolutely nothing, then build the ever-living hell out of

If you don't walk away KNOWING he will be the man to build your rig.....you aint right in the head!

Yup...and it's right down the road from 4Wheel Parts on South Blvd. My TJ is there now for an 8.8 swap. Give him a call...he'll help ya out.

i would go with tarheel, known some people to have good experiences as well as very informative on the phone, cant say the same about the other....

I'm assuming "the other" you refereenced is CRS?
If so, I gotta disagree with ya there. Andy has never done any work for me, but has done an absoute jam up job for several friends, I have a great quote from him on a cage project, and everytime I've ever called over there I've gotten nothing but friendly helpful (albeit busy... they do have a job ya know) people.

I have never heard anyone reputable (PBB bashed wenzelites dont count....) have anything but praisse to throw towards the guys at CRS!
So Andy here's my

and sharksanddanger

why roll your eyes at a guys opinion?

I roll my eyes, because I do not value or see that opinion as being reputable. Fair enough, everyone is entitled to an opinion of anyone or anyplace of business, but I think it is irresponsible to post an under-handed insult of a shop and owner that have busted their ass both on this message board and others as well as in the local community as a whole to foster and develop a good name for themselves without AT LEAST citing a specific example or at least why you don't feel that way about "others"

any goood charlotte 4x4 shops, beside 4wheel parts?

other than the comment that's already been made about a 4x5 shop... ...

I'd have to question putting 4WP into the "good Charlotte 4x4 shops" category...;)

I'll throw another vote or twelve in for CRS...

Greg

I have never had any problems at Tarheel. That's where I have gone for years. I will also say I have heard nothing but good things about CRS. If I was you I would drop by both, they are not far apart. Talk to them and see who you like the best and get some prices and go from there. Next time I'm over that way I would like to stop in at CRS. I think you will be happy with Tarheel or CRS, and would agree with bigwaylon about 4 wheel parts, stay away from that place.

Don't take this the wrong way. It was my opinion on my personal accounts with this shop. Seeing how you have never had anything there then your opinion shouldnt count all, regardless of how much stuff you have seen come from there. I have seen some good things come from there and thats why i went there. Unfortunately i was not as lucky in my dealings as most other people. I dropped my truck off and when i came back to get it some parts were broken and i got charged for them. The parts were not broken beforehand as i have many people that knew they worked and CRS never checked beforehand to make sure. CRS refused to give the money for the parts that ended up broken during the time they worked on my vehicle. He not only refused to give me the money but he also cursed at me in front of many people in the shop. Very disrespectful to me and unprofessional on his part. I know i dont drive a jeep and i am younger than most but i should not have been talked down to like that in front of potential customers. After i posted my dealings on a few boards to explain my situation and him posting there as well and my roommate(puma297) vouching for me he decided to give me a discount on labor on whatever i needed next. Well after the first situation why would i ever want to go back and have my truck worked on again there? THat is why i choose not to deal with them anymore. My roomate as well as many other folks have good luck with them. I have not. I didnt want to go into all that because everyone on this board loves CRS even though a lot of them have never even had work done there. I believe that is a reputable opinion now.

***Update***

Well I went to 4wp parts and CRS... well i hope CRS does good cuz they are sure of hell cheeper than 4wp... also talked to Andy and he will be doing CALMINI products there... so calmini just earned a lot of business.

yeah...if price is your concern, it's worth the 1/4 mile walk from 4WP to CRS...

I knew he just started carrying the Calmini line...I'm interested to see some of their stuff "in progress" on some vehicles...

I am only going to give a short reply to this post.

IThis is an issue of he said she said so I just need to chime in. I made every attempt to make this right (over 8 months ago), but there is only so far I will go.

We did a set of tube doors on the front of a Nissan Frontier. I did not check every function on every door before starting(my mistake). Customer swears everything works but his door, panel, engine bay, etc. are all full of muddy water. 2 circuit board modules in the front driver door fail, according to the customer when I pulled the front doors. Now, mind you, this is a door panel that has mud and water stains behind the plastic and on the module. I troubleshoot the entire thing, replace 2 boards, and charge him no labor, just dead nuts cost on parts. He swears that everything worked but there was muddy water over everything where the module was.

I offered all I was willing to to fix the issue, I was not going to take the hit on parts after discussing it with the guys at the Nissan Dealership that is local to us. I ate everything else. After the condition of the inside of the doors, etc. there were too many other possiblities so I did the best I could to rectify the situation. Again, the only thing we charged him for was the dead nuts cost on the parts.

This is just my side of the story, he is more than welcome to his opinion and I will not debate this anymore.

Andy

Never had any work done there but have been ordering parts from him recently rather than online ordering. Nice to be able to support a knowledgable shop that you can actually go visit and talk with in person rather than ones that you can only talk to on the phone. Plus his prices are pretty close to everyone elses

I just have to chime in on CRS.

I am planning on moving to Apex in June so I joined the board to gather information on NC wheeling vs Florida. I read many postings about different topics and Andy and CRS kept popping up with solid advice and recommendations. I was in the market to upgrade my standard RE3.5 lift and change out axles to D44's front and rear.

I contacted Andy on the phone and he made some suggestions for me on what I should do with the Jeep with the wheeling I am intending on doing. I ended up purchasing several items from his shop over the phone and the prices were well below any other place. Not only were the prices the best, but Andy was always responsive to my calls and questions. He remained patient with me and understood my circumstances on dealing with a new vendor. In the future, if CRS can get it for me, that is where I will be obtaining all my parts and upgrades. To me it will be well worth the 60-90 minute drive to his shop.

Craig
